Breast Augmentation - Transaxilary Incision
Transaxillary Incision (also known as Armpit or Axillary Incision)
The
transaxillary incision involves an incision in each armpit and the use of a special instrument called an
endoscope. The
endoscope allows your plastic surgeon to see inside your body using a monitor similar to a television.
Your plastic surgeon will use the
transaxillary incision primarily for those of you who do not want scars on your breast. However, one of the disadvantages to
transaxillary incision is that there may be a noticeable scar in the armpit area. Many women say you cannot see it once it has healed. Other disadvantages include the incision being further away from where the doctor is working during surgery, as with the
TUBA method. Some plastic surgeons believe that by working further from the implant site, it is harder to accurately place the implant. Other plastic surgeons believe they have more than enough control over
breast implant placement with this incision.
